A healthy, productive life requires adequate nutrition and eating a proper,nutritious diet offers numerous health benefits that keep you mentally and physically well.
Caritas Kabale has supported beneficiaries with grafted avocado seedlings, cabbage, Spinach, and carrot seeds to prevent under nutrition. The vegetables are planted in the kitchen/backyard gardens for proper management and quick access.
Improving nutrition especially among women and children forms a core component of our nutrition related interventions in the Diocese.
Caritas Kabale in partnership with Abt Associates is implementing a five-year USAID funded program titled Integrated Community Agriculture and Nutrition (ICAN) Activity in Uganda.
The purpose of USAID's ICAN Activity is to sustainably enhance the resilience of vulnerable households by increasing economic opportunities for poor households, improving nutrition with a focus on women and children, and strengthening community and local governance.
USAID’s Integrated Community Agriculture and Nutrition(ICAN) Activity is USAID/Uganda’s flagship resilience project which is implemented in eight districts of Kanungu, Kisoro, Rukungiri (Kigezi sub-region), Gulu, Lamwo, Nwoya (Acholi sub-region), and Kaabong and Kotido (Karamoja sub-region. Caritas Kabale Diocese is spearheading the implementation of USAID-ICAN activities in the Kigezi sub region.
Under this nutrition component, the targeted results in Kigezi region include;
- Improved maternal, infant and young childcare and feeding practices.
- Increased use of safe water, sanitation facilities, hygiene practices and products
- Increased consumption of diverse, safe and nutritious food.
