Caritas Kabale promotes personal and household hygiene and sanitation among its beneficiaries through participatory approaches/trainings on WASH best practices which include; construction and utilization of pit-latrines, bath shelters, washable surface toilets, plate drying racks, cleaning compounds, livestock shelter among others. Many households face challenges of lack of access to clean and safe water since children and women travel long distances to access clean water for household use.
In response to the above challenges Caritas Kabale diocese promotes ferro-cement water tanks and tarpaulin walled underground tanks for the vulnerable households that fetch water from distant water sources. This in turn reduces the heavy work-load for women and children and in turn saves some time to perfom other domestic activities.
Caritas kabale also colloborates with government Health team especially Health Assistants at subcounties level to extend WASH trainings and monitoring as away of increasing adoption of WASH best practices for a better health.
